Sentinel

What Sentinel is

Sentinel is the diagnostics part of Phoenix UI. When a Phoenix module throws a Lua error, is blocked by the game, or runs over its performance budget, Sentinel records it in your SavedVariables so the problem can be found and fixed. It only records errors that come from Phoenix's own files.

Opt-in

Sharing is off until you turn it on in /pui sentinel (or the Sentinel page in the options). With sharing off, reports stay on your computer: you can read them in the panel and clear them, and nothing is sent anywhere.

With sharing on, the Sentinel Companion desktop app (testers only) reads the reports from your SavedVariables and uploads them to vq8s.com. You can also copy a report as an export string and send it yourself.

What a report contains

  • The error message, the Phoenix file and line, and the call stack.
  • The game version, client language, Phoenix version and release track.
  • Your class, level, specialization, zone and instance type, whether you were in combat, and your group size.
  • Your Phoenix profile name and the settings of the module that failed.
  • The list of loaded addons and their versions, and Phoenix's CPU time, frame rate and latency.

Values the game hides in restricted content are replaced by <secret> before anything is stored.

What a report never contains

  • Chat text, other players' names, your friends list or addon messages.
  • Your character name, unless you turn on Share character name yourself.

Retention and deleting your data

Reports are kept for at most 90 days. Testers have a tester ID; to have every report linked to it deleted, open an issue on GitHub with your tester ID (not your character name) and it will be removed.
